Common Questions About Dental Crowns and Dental Bridges
What is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a replacement for the visible portion (crown) of a tooth. Amazingly natural-looking and durable materials have been developed recently to use in dental crown creation. When finished, neither you nor your friends will be able to tell the difference between your new dental crown and your real teeth!
What is a Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge is a series of connected dental crowns which is utilized to fill in a gap in a smile, such as a missing tooth or teeth. The dental bridge is affixed to adjacent teeth, with the end result being a complete and attractive smile where a gap once was. This is a great way to get that beautiful smile you’ve always wanted!
The Dental Crown and Bridge Treatment
The process for dental crowns and bridges works as follows:
- You will meet with Dr. Kessner to determine if a dental crown or a dental bridge is indeed the best option for you. If you are a good candidate, and if both you and Dr. Kessner agree that a dental crown or dental bridge will work, Dr. Kessner can begin preparing your crown or bridge.
- The area where the crown or bridge will be placed will be prepared for the procedure. This usually involves some tooth surface shaping and alteration to best accommodate the dental crown or dental bridge.
- A temporary crown or bridge may be placed while your permanent crown or bridge is crafted. Your permanent crown or bridge may take up to two or three weeks to be completed.
- On your next visit, your new dental crown or dental bridge will be placed. You will then be able to use your new crown or bridge as normal as if they were always there!
